For seven years, the non-profit Project RYTMO (Reaching Youth Through Music Opportunities) has been keeping kids in Anaheim, Calif. off the streets and engaged in music and learning. Now available from Apple’s App store is an iPhone/iPad/iPod touch version of TC Electronic’s PolyTune guitar tuner, which allows checking the tuning of all guitar strings simultaneously. This 1:1 port of TC’s award-winning PolyTune pedal tuner offers the exact same tuning technology and features found in the pedal version. It also offers an onboard chromatic tuner with ±0.5 cent accuracy.

Montreal’s Game On Audio, a voice-over service for the videogame industry, announces that it is expanding its operations thanks to a strategic investment totaling close to $2 million made possible by its parters: the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC), Investissement Québec and the Regional Economic Intervention Fund (FIER). The investment is comprised of funds from Game On Audio and from Investissement Québec, as well as loans from BDC and FIER Centre-du-Québec.

Musical instrument and pro audio retailer Sweetwater will present GearFest 2010 on June 25-26 in Fort Wayne, Ind. GearFest—an expo for musicians and their families—is free and open to the public, and includes an indoor/outdoor festival featuring music, food, fun and prizes. This year’s two-day expo offers dozens of workshops and seminars, scores of manufacturer exhibits, and special surprises.

CEDAR Audio in Cambridge, UK announces that it will discontinue manufacturing its DNS2000 dialog noise suppressor and that the remaining units in stock are available for purchase at half price, while supplies last. CEDAR launched the DNS2000 in March 2002 to partner its DNS1000 dialog noise suppressor.

As of May 1, 2010, TransAudio Group in Las Vegas is handling Chameleon Labs' worldwide sales and marketing efforts. Chameleon Labs builds vintage-inspired analog recording gear with performance and options offered at a fraction of the cost typically associated with high-end gear.

API (Automated Processes Inc.) in Jessup, Md., reports that almost two years after John McBride’s Blackbird Studio in Nashville purchased 1608 serial number 001, API president Larry Droppa recently traveled to Los Angeles to congratulate film and television composer William Anderson on his purchase of the 100th API 1608 console.

Peavey announces the formation of its new Commercial Audio Division. A new management structure has been put in place to run the organization, which is overseen by Managing Director Clive Roberts based in Corby, UK, and Peavey Commercial Audio general manager, Kevin Ivey, who is based at Peavey's headquarters in Meridian, Miss.

Soundelux Design Music Group in Hollywood recently provided original music, voice-over recording and sound design for Lost Planet 2, Capcom’s new sequel to its third-person shooter videogame. Jamie Christopherson wrote the new main theme and the majority of the score for the game.

Acoustic solutions manufacturer Vicoustic, based in Lisbon, Portugal, is shipping the latest addition to its variable acoustics product range. Vari Bass is designed to eradicate problems associated with low frequency resonance. Vicoustic states that it is the first passive, stand-alone tunable bass trap of its kind.

The Audio Engineering Society’s 128th Convention in London takes place at the Novotel Convention Centre in Hammersmith, with conferences May 22-25 and exhibitions May 23-25. The AES announces that research scientist Masataka Goto, who leads the Media Interaction Group at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in Japan, will be the keynote speaker at the Convention’s opening ceremony on May 22 at 12:30 p.m. local time. The AES also announces that Sir George Martin (pictured) will accept an Honorary Membership from the AES on May 25 at 2:30 p.m. before introducing one of the afternoon seminars.

The 40th anniversary presentation of the Vision Awards will take place on September 23, 2010, in Beverly Hills. For the first time, the Vision Awards will present a “Pioneer in Technology” award to Ray Kurzweil (pictured). The announcement was made today by Helen Harris, founder of Retinitis Pigmentosa International, which is the presenting organization behind these awards.

ALMA, the International Loudspeaker Association based in Boston, announces its inaugural Student Loudspeaker Design Competition. Entrants must be full-time students at an accredited college or graduate institution.
