Shure Incorporated announces that a team from Drexel University won the company's sixth annual Fantastic Scholastic Recording Competition. The four students—Chris Pollock, Monika Arielle Julien, Justin T. Chapman and Lenard Reuben Skolnick, with faculty advisor Cyrille Taillandier—won this year's contest with an original composition by Sonni Shine entitled “Just Like Ice.”

Milwaukee's Summerfest is billed as "the world’s largest music festival" with 11 stages hosting artists and bands for 11 days. Clearwing Productions, which has provided production for Summerfest for more than 15 years, supplied Martin LE700 monitors at four of the 11 stages: the U.S. Cellular Stage, Briggs Stage, Rock Stage (Harley Davidson), and Miller Lite Oasis.

129th AES Convention Technical Tour Co-Chairs Jessica Livingston and Jeff McKnight have planned Technical Tours of audio facilities and venues in the San Francisco Bay Area as part of the 129th AES Convention, which will take place in San Francisco's Moscone Center November 5-7, 2010. The AES states that times and dates have yet to be finalized, but is offering an advance look at some options.

Shure is introducing a Special Edition Super 55 microphone ($354 MSRP/$299 retail) tailored for vocals and speech, and featuring a vintage design, high output (with a Neodymium magnet and output transformer for increased sensitivity) and rugged die-cast chrome casing, along with a new red-and-black color scheme. The Special Edition Super 55 incorporates modern technology while paying tribute to the original Shure Unidyne, the first single-element unidirectional microphone, which Shure introduced in 1939.

Roland Systems Group debuted its S-MADI REAC Bridge at this year’s InfoComm Show in June. The S-MADI REAC Bridge, a bi-directional signal converter between MADI and REAC, enables connectivity between Roland’s REAC products (M-48 Personal Mixing System) to MADI-equipped digital audio mixers/systems, including DiGiCo’s SD7, SD8, SD9 and D Series consoles. DiGiCo states that its technical director, John Stadius, worked closely with Roland engineers to ensure smooth functionality and interconnectivity with DiGiCo’s mixing systems.

The second Annual Recording Industry Poker Tournament took place this past Sunday, August 1, raising much-needed funds for Sound Art, a youth-oriented music education foundation in Los Angeles.
