Interview: Motor City Drum Ensemble

Beatportal - 14 hours 42 min ago
It is February in Dublin. Danilo Plessow, a skinny white 24-year-old DJ from Stuttgart, spins vinyl to a tightly packed dancefloor in the Crawdaddy section of the Pod nightclub in Harcourt Street. Now known as Motor City Drum Ensemble, Plessow has worked under several aliases including Hypster Wonkaz, Aphro Pzyko, and Inverse Cinematics (previously his most successful project and a joint creation with Joachim Tobias), before he launched MCDE last year. Through a number of high profile remixes and a standout series of EPs called 'Raw Cuts', Motor City Drum Ensemble hit all the right notes in 2009. Both deep house master Moodymann, and Detroit pioneer Kenny Larkin, publicly praised Plessow for taking the classic Detroit sound and turning it into something new.

Pioneer launch the DJM-2000 Mixer

MixMag - 16 hours 58 min ago
Check out this little beauty. Well, maybe less of the little.

This is Pioneer's DJM-2000 mixer which launches today.

It has an innovative touch screen and arsenal of remixing FX, with six individual effects processors. It has effectively built in the technology of the EFX-1000, removing the need for an external effects unit along with touch screen technology from the SVM-1000.

The mixer has been developed with the help of a number of DJs. James Zabiela, Roger Sanchez, Eddie Halliwell, Tom Middleton, The Swedish House Mafia, Paul Woolford, John '00' Fleming and Kutski have all tested out the DJM-2000 at various stages of development.

You can buy the mixer in June - its price: €1,999 (£1822). For more see pioneerprodj.eu

Noisia’s Full Metal Racket

Beatportal - 17 hours 19 min ago
We should warn you at the outset that this video is totally NSFM—not safe for mealtime, that is. The Dutch heavyweights of drum'n'bass and electro, Noisia, test your gag reflex with their video for 'Machine Gun', which begins as a clever collage of abstract imagery and commences in a bloody orgy of mangled flesh and raw meat.

Inside the mind of Wolfgang Gartner

Beatportal - Tue, 03/09/2010 - 09:12
Is there any producer with a keener eye for detail than Wolfgang Gartner? The meticulousness of the electro house producer from Austin, Texas, has made him a huge star within the genre, and helped him net eight Beatport No.1 records. Whilst most electro house producers opt for simplicity - a big bassline and a simple house loop will do, won't it? - Wolfgang Gartner throws layers of synths and FX into the mix, resulting in tracks that offer a multitude of build ups, bass holes, and hand-raising moments. His latest single 'Undertaker' sees Wolfgang return to what he does best - microscopically precise heavy house grooves mixed with an instantly recognisable epic melody. No doubt, it will be one of the hits of Miami's WMC 2010 in a little over two weeks. But what don't we know about Wolfgang Gartner? We decided to fire a series of personal questions at the producer and DJ to find out more about the man behind those killer electro house grooves (and yes, that is Wolfgang Gartner when he was a kid).

Come to Ibiza with Mixmag and Don’t Stay In

MixMag - Tue, 03/09/2010 - 09:08

Mixmag and Don’t Stay In have joined forces to create the ultimate trip to Ibiza.

We’ve sorted out an incredible Ibiza package for four nights on the island starting on Monday August 30 to Friday September 3.

Between those dates we’ve arranged the ideal clubbers package including: four nights accommodation at Ibiza Rocks Hotel, parties and guestlists sorted for every night, 25% discount on drinks at the hotel and a bunch of money can’t buy VIP upgrades in the clubs.

The Mixmag/ Don’t Stay In Ibiza session will run like this:

Monday: Arrive at Ibiza Rocks Hotel, exclusive Don’t Stay In Party that night in Electric Lounge (not open to public) with secret guest DJs

Tuesday: Free admission to Ibiza Rocks gig + after party

Wednesday: Don’t Stay In pre-party @ Bar M followed by guestlist for Reclaim the Dancefloor @ Eden

Thursday: Mixmag @ Cream Ibiza pre-party and exclusive bus to Cream Ibiza and the Mixmag Terrace @ Amnesia with VIP guestlist and access to the VIP balcony for the first 150 people booking this package

Friday: Farewell pool party with special guests

• Throughout your stay you can use a 25% discount on drinks at Ibiza Rocks Hotel meaning your pre-club round just got a lot cheaper.

This adds up to an incredible Ibiza escape all for the insanely cheap price of £189!

Spaces are limited, however, if you want to reserve a space there's no need to pay for the whole holiday now – you can reserve your space with a £50 deposit and pay the rest later.

To book go to this booking page where you can place a deposit to hold your place or book the full package now.

Alternatively call 0208 780 5551 (Mon-Fri 9.30-530). If you have any questions about this amazing holiday package just call this number.

The £189 price is based on three sharing a self catering studio. If you require just two sharing a studio add an extra £35 per person. Extra nights, pool and stage view studios are available on request. Each booking is subject to a £4 booking fee.

We’ve purposely not included flights in the package allowing you to shop round for the best deal for you.

Mixmag and Don’t Stay In Ibiza Session is only accessible by booking the package above. Places are limited. No ‘wristband only’ sales are possible. 25% drinks discount does not work during the Ibiza Rocks gig on the Tuesday night.
